Your footage never comes here.
Effective 2026-09-09. Version 2026-09-09.
This policy explains what BetterLibrary, BetterEdits, the website at usebetterapps.com and the account dashboard do with your data. It is written by Seven Sigma Group LLC (“Seven Sigma Group”, “we”), the company that makes the apps and is the data controller for your account. Write to g@usebetterapps.com with any question about it.
The short version
- Your libraries, projects and footage are files in folders on your Mac. We never receive, copy or store them.
- The AI features send exactly what each feature needs, when you use it, to the third-party service that runs the model. Each one is named below with the model it uses and what it gets.
- We do not store what the AI features send or what comes back. The third parties may keep it for a time under their own terms, which we summarise and link below.
- Our servers keep your account: name, email, hashed password, subscriptions, credit balance, a usage row per AI call (counts and costs, never content) and the Macs you signed in.
- Stripe is the merchant of record for every purchase and holds your card details. We only see the last four digits.
- The website counts page views and download clicks anonymously. The apps and the dashboard contain no analytics.
- You can delete your account, and everything we hold, from the dashboard at any time.
1. What stays on your Mac
BetterLibrary keeps each library as a folder of your clips, a database of tags and properties, thumbnails, embeddings and a settings file. BetterEdits keeps each workspace as a folder of projects, media references, captions and exports. None of it is uploaded, synced or backed up by us. Meaning search in BetterLibrary runs all-MiniLM-L6-v2 (sentence embeddings) on your Mac; nothing leaves it. If you lose the folder, we cannot recover it, so keep your own backups.
The apps talk to our API only to check your account and credits, to relay the AI requests described below, and to check for updates. Those requests carry your account credential, the app’s name and version, and your IP address in the ordinary way of any internet request.
2. What leaves your Mac, and when
Nothing is sent unless you use a feature that needs a server. Each feature says what it sends in its settings, and each can be turned off or left unused.
| When you | What is sent | To |
|---|---|---|
| Tag a clip with AI (BetterLibrary) | A downscaled, silent copy of the clip; the library’s description and property names | Google (Gemini) |
| Ask for clips (BetterLibrary) | The sentence you typed; the library’s description, property and tag names | Alibaba Cloud (Qwen) through Vercel AI Gateway |
| Create a library and let the app propose properties (BetterLibrary) | What you said the library is about | Alibaba Cloud (Qwen) through Vercel AI Gateway |
| Add subtitles (BetterEdits) | The audio of that track; your language and key terms | Deepgram |
| Clone a reel (BetterEdits) | A copy of the reel you pasted, with audio, at five frames a second; then a text description of its structure | Google (Gemini), then Alibaba Cloud (Qwen) or Anthropic (Claude) if you chose it, through Vercel AI Gateway |
| Check for updates (both apps) | The app’s version and your IP address | Our download bucket on Railway |
Every AI request passes through our API on the way. The API checks your account, deducts credits, adds the no-training routing rule, forwards the request and returns the reply. It does not write the content of the request or the reply anywhere. It keeps one usage row: the feature, the model, token or minute counts, the credits charged, the provider’s cost, a timestamp, and, when a call fails, the first 200 characters of the provider’s error message.
3. Third-party processors for the AI features
These companies run the models. We hold a paid business account with each, under terms that do not permit training on your data, and each receives only what its feature needs. We do not store what is sent to them or what they return. They may retain it for a time for abuse detection, legal compliance or operations, under their own terms, which we cannot control. The links go to each company’s own policy, which governs what they do with it.
Requests to language models go through Vercel AI Gateway with a rule that only allows hosts Vercel has a no-training agreement with. A request that cannot be routed that way fails instead of falling back. Google and Deepgram are called directly with our business keys.
Google LLC (Gemini API)
Video understanding: tagging clips in BetterLibrary and taking a reel apart in BetterEdits. Established in United States.
Used by: Tag a clip with AI (BetterLibrary); Clone a reel, step one (BetterEdits).
Default model:
gemini-3.6-flash.Can also be set to:
gemini-3.5-flash,gemini-3.1-pro-preview,gemini-3.7-flash,gemini-3.8-flash,gemini-3.5-flash-lite,gemini-3.1-flash-lite,gemini-2.5-flash,gemini-2.5-flash-lite. BetterEdits offers the first two in its settings; a BetterLibrary library's settings.jsonc can name any Gemini model, and the app carries prices for the rest.Receives: For tagging, a downscaled copy of the clip with its audio removed, the library's description and property names, and the prompt. For cloning, a copy of the reel with its audio, at five frames a second. The video is uploaded to Google's file storage for the request.
Keeps: Google's paid Gemini API terms do not allow training on this data; files uploaded for a request are deleted by Google after 48 hours, and Google may keep logs for a limited time to detect abuse and meet its legal duties. Their policy.
Alibaba Cloud (Qwen models), through Vercel AI Gateway
The language model behind asking, the New Library proposal and reel templates. Established in Singapore and the United States, through a United States gateway.
Used by: Ask for clips (BetterLibrary); New Library proposal (BetterLibrary); Clone a reel, step two (BetterEdits).
Default model:
alibaba/qwen3.8-max.Can also be set to:
alibaba/qwen3.7-flash. A BetterLibrary library's settings.jsonc can name another Qwen model.Receives: For asking, the sentence you type, the library's description, its property and tag names, and the prompt. For the proposal, what you say the library is about. For templates, a text description of the reel's structure. Never a video.
Keeps: Reached only through hosts Vercel has a no-training agreement with; a request that cannot be routed that way fails rather than falling back. Alibaba Cloud may keep request logs under its own terms. Their policy.
Anthropic PBC (Claude models), through Vercel AI Gateway
An alternative model for reel templates in BetterEdits, when you pick one in its settings. Established in United States.
Used by: Clone a reel, step two (BetterEdits), when selected.
Used only when selected:
anthropic/claude-sonnet-5,anthropic/claude-opus-5,anthropic/claude-haiku-4.5.Receives: A text description of the reel's structure and the prompt. Never a video.
Keeps: Anthropic's commercial terms do not allow training on API data; Anthropic may keep logs for a limited time for trust and safety. Their policy.
DeepSeek models, served through Vercel AI Gateway
Not used unless a BetterLibrary library's settings.jsonc names one; the app carries their prices. Established in United States hosts only.
Used by: Ask for clips (BetterLibrary), when selected.
Used only when selected:
deepseek/deepseek-v4-pro,deepseek/deepseek-v4-flash.Receives: The same as for asking: the sentence you type, the library's description, property and tag names, and the prompt.
Keeps: Routed only to a host with a no-training agreement, never to DeepSeek's own service, which stores data in the People's Republic of China and may train on it. Their policy.
Deepgram, Inc.
Speech to text for subtitles in BetterEdits. Established in United States.
Used by: Subtitles (BetterEdits).
Default model:
nova-3.Can also be set to:
nova-2,nova-3-medical.Receives: The audio of the track you transcribe, the language you chose and any key terms you added.
Keeps: Deepgram's paid terms do not allow training on this data; Deepgram may keep the audio and transcript for a limited time under its own policy. Their policy.
Vercel, Inc. (AI Gateway)
Relays every request to Alibaba Cloud, Anthropic and DeepSeek-hosted models, adding the no-training routing rule. Established in United States.
Used by: Every feature above that runs on a language model.
Receives: The request and the reply, in transit.
Keeps: Vercel logs request metadata (model, tokens, cost) and does not train on content; it may keep logs under its own policy. Their policy.
We may change the model or the company behind a feature, for quality, price or availability. When we do, this page changes with it; the feature’s behaviour, what it sends and the rule against training do not.
4. Other companies that process your data
Stripe, Inc.
Payments. Under Stripe Managed Payments, Stripe is the merchant of record: it sells the subscription or credit pack to you, charges your card, issues the receipt and handles sales tax. Established in United States.
Used by: Checkout; Renewals; Refunds.

Keeps: Kept by Stripe under its own privacy policy and the law on financial records. Their policy.
Supabase, Inc.
Sign-in and the database behind your account. Established in United States.
Used by: Account; Sign-in; Password reset emails.
Receives: Your name, email, a hashed password, your subscriptions, credit balance, usage rows and the Macs you signed in.

Railway Corporation
Runs our API, which the apps and the dashboard call, and stores the app downloads. Established in United States.
Used by: Every request from the apps and the dashboard; Downloads and update checks.
Receives: Request logs with your IP address and the request path, and the AI requests in transit.
Keeps: Logs kept for a short period under Railway's policy; we do not keep AI request content. Their policy.
Vercel, Inc. (hosting)
Hosts the website, the dashboard, the admin panel and the manuals. Established in United States.
Used by: Every page you open.
Receives: Your IP address and the pages requested, in server logs.
Keeps: Kept briefly under Vercel's policy. Their policy.
PostHog, Inc.
Counts page views and download clicks on the website only. Established in United States.
Used by: The website.
Receives: Page views, clicks and a random browser identifier. No name, no email, nothing from the apps or the dashboard.
Keeps: Kept by PostHog under its policy; visitors are not identified. Their policy.
5. What we keep on our servers
- Account: name, email, a hashed password, the date you accepted the terms and which version, and the IP address at sign-up. Sign-up and sign-in attempts are counted by IP address for a short time to stop abuse.
- Billing: your subscriptions and their state, mirrored from Stripe; your credit balance and every credit movement; the last four digits and expiry of the card on file. Receipts and full card details live with Stripe.
- Usage: one row per AI call, as described in section 2. Never the content.
- Macs: a credential for each Mac you signed an app in on, with the Mac’s name and the date, so you can sign one out from the dashboard.
- Support: the emails you send us.
- Administration: a log of every change our staff make to an account.
We keep this for as long as your account exists. Deleting your account removes all of it from our systems within 30 days, except what the law makes us keep (financial records, held by Stripe) and short-lived server logs. Support emails are deleted within a year of the last exchange.
6. Payments
Purchases are processed by Stripe under Stripe Managed Payments, which makes Stripe the merchant of record: Stripe sells you the subscription or credit pack, charges your card, calculates and remits sales tax or VAT, and issues the receipt. Stripe’s checkout form collects your card and billing details directly; they never pass through our servers. Stripe’s privacy policy applies to that data.
7. Website analytics and cookies
The website uses PostHog to count page views and clicks, including which download button was pressed, so we know whether anyone is arriving. It sets a first-party cookie holding a random identifier. Visitors are not identified, there is no session recording, and nothing personal is attached. The dashboard uses a session cookie to keep you signed in, and nothing else. There are no advertising trackers anywhere.
8. Claude Code and other agents
Both apps include a command-line tool and write a guide file so that Claude Code, or any agent you run, can work with your libraries and workspaces. When you use such an agent, it reads your folders and sends what it reads to its own provider under your agreement with that provider. That is your relationship, not ours: we do not receive that data and are not responsible for what the agent’s provider does with it.
9. Where your data goes
We are a United States company and our servers are in the United States. The companies above are established where stated and may process data in other countries. If you use the apps from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, your data is transferred to the United States and, for the model providers, to the countries listed; we rely on the providers’ standard contractual clauses and their published safeguards for those transfers.
10. Security
Passwords are hashed, credentials are sent only over TLS, API keys for the AI services stay on our servers and are never in the apps, and each Mac’s credential can be revoked from the dashboard. No system is perfectly secure; if we learn of a breach affecting your data we will tell you by email without undue delay.
11. Your rights
You can see and change your name, email and password, sign out any Mac, download your credit activity as a CSV, and delete your account, all from the dashboard. Deleting the account also cancels any subscription. If you are in the EEA, the UK, Switzerland, California or another place with a data protection law, you also have the right to ask for a copy of your data, to correct it, to restrict or object to its processing, to portability, and to complain to your supervisory authority. Write to g@usebetterapps.com; we answer within 30 days and never ask you to pay for it. We do not sell personal data, do not share it for advertising, and do not use it for profiling or automated decisions with legal effect.
12. Age
The apps and this site are for adults. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18, or under the age of digital consent where they live if that is higher. If you believe a minor has an account, write to us and we will delete it.
13. Changes to this policy
When a model, a provider or what we keep changes, this page changes. We update the effective date at the top and, for a change that affects you materially, email account holders at least 14 days before it applies. Continuing to use the apps after that date means you accept the updated policy.
14. Contact
Seven Sigma Group LLC, g@usebetterapps.com. The terms of service are the other half of this agreement.
