Creator apps are bad. We are building better ones.
BetterApps is a small studio inside Seven Sigma Group. We build the two Mac apps we wanted for our own footage, and we use them every week.
Four habits we refuse to copy.
Every popular tool for people who post video has at least one of these. Most have all four.
- Phone-first
- The apps creators use were designed for a thumb on a five-inch screen. Fat-finger trims, one project at a time, and a Mac version that is an afterthought or does not exist.
- Browser-first
- The web tools upload your footage to render it, wait on a spinner for every scrub, and keep the result inside their account, not your folder.
- Files hidden
- Footage goes into the app and never comes out as a file you can hand to anything else. Cancel, and the work is gone.
- AI as a sticker
- “AI-powered” on the box, a magic button in the app, and no way to see what it sent, what it cost, or what it changed.
Five rules we do not break.
- Files you own
- A library is a folder. A project is JSON next to its media. Nothing lives in our cloud, and the apps keep opening your work whether or not you pay us.
- Native, and fast for real
- Swift, AVFoundation, AppKit, SwiftUI. If a click waits on a spinner, that is a bug.
- The AI fills. You approve.
- A model can name, tag, highlight, caption and clone. It never marks a clip Ready, never touches a manual property, and every call is priced where you can see it.
- Small on purpose
- BetterEdits has one timeline and no effects panel. BetterLibrary is a library, not an editor. Each app does its part extremely well and hands off with a drag.
- Built for agents from day one
- Both apps ship a command line and write a guide into every folder. Claude Code is a user, and we test with it.
Who we are
Every video we posted came from the same loop: shoot too much, lose the good take in a camera roll or a folder, scrub through it on a phone, cut it in an app that trapped the result inside itself, then do it all again next week. The phone was the wrong tool for someone with a Mac and a keyboard. The full editors were the wrong tool for a thirty-second video.
So we built the two pieces that were missing. BetterLibrary is the library: it holds thousands of clips, learns your vocabulary, and finds the shot when you describe it. BetterEdits is the cutter: one timeline, templates you can clone from a reel, captions in one click.
Then Claude Code arrived and we made both apps take orders from it, because the loop itself is the boring part.
Both apps are new. Version 0.1 means exactly that: the core is solid and used daily, the edges are still being filed. The changelog says what shipped, and hello@betterapps.app reaches a person who can fix things.
